PIECES OF JULY
This summer feels different. It feels like a season where priorities have shifted, where everything has been turned upside down, and where change is constant.
I don't have any trips planned, and I'm surprisingly at peace with that. Although, if I'm being honest, watching everyone else on holiday has given me a slight sense of 'fomo'. But then again, it all comes back to priorities. Right now, mine simply lie elsewhere.
The past month has felt different. At some point, almost without noticing, I became someone else. Somehow, I now have the courage to do things I wouldn't have dared to do a year ago. It's been a month where ideas have come easily, but structure hasn't. A month where I've felt confident and content, while also making room for fear and uncertainty.
I've enjoyed it. I've changed. I've grown. And I genuinely believe I'm getting closer to a place I've always wanted to reach. Still, I can't help but question it all from time to time. I get nervous. But I suppose that's what change feels like.
I'm sure this won't be the last time I experience something like this. And although I don't think practice will ever make change feel easier, I'm convinced it will, in one way or another, make me stronger.
I wrote a book.
This isn't quite how I imagined sharing it, but I can't seem to keep it to myself anymore – I wrote a book. Well, technically, I put together a printed collection of my favourite articles. Because if I didn't immediately downplay it, it probably wouldn't sound like me.
It's something I'm incredibly excited about, even though I still don't really know what comes next. What I realised this month is that my problem has never been creating. It's been finding a direction that gives my work purpose.
I've made the vdn store jewellery, the table linens, scarves, stickers, and now the book. Every project has brought me an immense sense of personal fulfilment, and I think that's been enough for me until now. But that shift I mentioned earlier has made me question myself instead of validating myself. So now, I'm trying to figure out how to turn that around.
People always say September feels like a fresh start. We'll see where I am by then, and hopefully I'll have found the intention behind the projects that are waiting to be built.
