PIECES OF AUGUST
Or, a summer working in the city?
As you might have noticed from previous articles, comments and content, this summer I decided to take a different career path and change my routine. With that, it was inevitable to stay in the city during the summer, working and focusing on what’s coming ahead and what the best approach to it is.
I’ve felt great, with a mix of a lot of feelings. Most of them related to the uncertainty life suddenly brought. Ending a professional relationship to start working on my own has quickly taught me that not everything is in your hands, yet it actually is.
However, being in the city with that aim and focus did not stop me from enjoying the city and enjoying the beach– thank God I live in Barcelona.
This article is actually coming a little late, but I do believe better late than never. And maybe it comes with a little more perspective too. With the depth that comes from looking back and simply saying thank you. Thank you for what life is, and for having the courage to take different decisions.
I know that sometimes everything can look idyllic on the internet. I do think I keep a pretty real, close and honest voice about what is happening in my life, while still keeping certain things at a distance. However, so many things have happened this year.
It has been a year of so many changes. A year in which I genuinely feel like my frontal lobe fully developed, as a 25, almost 26-year-old.
But if there is one thing I can say, it is that it is very important to focus on where it is worth being. Or, at least, where you believe it is worth being.
Because I am a firm believer that sometimes it takes time to actually realize what you have.
You focus on working and working and working, and you forget to actually enjoy. To be grateful. To be present. To be conscious of the life you are living while you are so focused on building whatever is coming next.
So, for me, this August has significantly been about that.
Being present with the reality I have. Being grateful for it. And, on top of that, actually enjoying it. Living it. Being as conscious as possible of the privileges and the good opportunities I have.
All of this has also existed alongside the suffering and sadness of everything that has happened in Venezuela, my country, this year. Something that, with a lot of sadness, has also been difficult for me to navigate.
I guess August was a little bit of all of it.
Working. Changing. Questioning. Enjoying the city. Going to the beach. Being uncertain about what comes next while, at the same time, feeling incredibly grateful for what is already here.
Maybe that’s what this Pieces of August is really about.
Being present enough to notice it.
